Robert Pattinson’s Red Carpet Philosophy Is Go Big or Go Home

Even though Robert Pattinson is dressed in the skin-tight superhero outfit that has become synonymous with Batman on the big screen, the actor has opted for a considerably more relaxed look on the red carpet for The Batman’s press tour, which took place this past week. Pattinson has constantly opted for creatively loose fits that are both stylish and sophisticated, thanks to some very slick tailoring on the red carpet. He’s finally gotten into his style groove, gamely dressing up for the step and repeat, but in his own casual manner, like he does every day.

Pattinson sported an all-black Tom Ford ensemble to the New York City premiere on Tuesday night this week, which included a massive, double-breasted overcoat that he looked like he was virtually swimming in. The fact that he was dressed in a black shirt and black tie with slim-fit slacks and chiseled-toe oxfords didn’t make him seem frumpy at all. A gray single-breasted model by Acne Studios was worn with an all-black ensemble at the film’s Paris premiere last week, which was also his second appearance in the extra-large coat. On the runways this season, we’ve seen loads of enormous outerwear from brands like Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten, and Prada, and it’s evident that he’s drawing inspiration from them.

Pattinson has also introduced his fresh, airy design to the world of suiting. Last week, he attended the film’s London premiere in an enormous gray-wool Dior suit in which the shoulders were extra-padded, and the trousers pooled to the bottom of the shoes. When worn with a sleek black turtleneck, the fit seemed much more current and young than your typical slim-fit tuxedo. The next week, at the film’s Miami premiere, he donned another oversized Valentino suit, this time in a checkered pattern. He accessorized with a pink washed-silk shirt.

The nicest thing about all of Pattinson’s dressy-casual ensembles on the press tour, though, is that they all look great together. On the red carpet, they’ve been the ideal complement to his co-star Zoe Kravitz’s ultra-sexy, black cut-out outfits, which have been a hit. For once, the male co-star hasn’t been a complete snoozefest when it comes to his design choices. He’s certainly keeping up his end of the bargain.
