As US politicians ponder imposing an embargo on Russian energy, they may be forced to start putting their money where their mouths are as well. Increased inflation and rising energy costs, along with the economy’s epidemic recovery, were already increasing the cost of living.

California has become the first state in the United States to have an average petrol price over $5 per gallon, a little more than a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on the United States.

Gas prices in the United States are “surging at rate drivers haven’t seen since Hurricane Katrina in 2005,” according to the Associated Press. It should be noted that the national average fuel price record of $4.11, achieved in 2008, is within striking distance. That would be a significant increase from a year ago when the national average price of gasoline was $2.75 a gallon.
